Community Living Standards

Welcome to another academic year at Education City! We are excited to have you all as members of our residential community. Surely, the upcoming year will bring with it plenty of growth, development, friendship and, of course, fun! To facilitate in those areas, the Housing and Residence Life Office would like to remind all students of some policies that can be found in the Community Living Standards (CLS).

These policies are often easiest to forget, but essential for day to day to living in the residence halls:

1.) Please remember to PED in and out of your building. The PED (Personal Entry Device) is there for your safety and to help locate you in case of an emergency. It is important that you keep your PED with you at all times and respect the Desk Clerks’ authority in enforcing this policy. Also, please remember that you should not loan your PED to other students, residents or visitors.

2.) Quiet hours are an important part of living in a residential community developed within an educational environment. As we recognize you are students first, we also recognize that you need a place conducive to fulfilling your needs as a student. Thus, to help you in that endeavor, quiet hours are in effect from 11:00pm to 10:00am Saturday through Wednesday and from midnight to 10:00am Thursday and Friday. Also, remember courtesy hours are always in effect to allow you and your neighbors to study effectively within the community.

3.) Much like quiet hours, visitation hours are an important part of living in the residence halls. It is important to remember that we are living in an Islamic State and must respect the local customs, cultural norms and laws. Thus, the visitation policy indicates that all visitors must be of the same gender. Visitors are only allowed in the residence halls apartments/rooms between 9:00am and 11:00pm Saturday through Wednesday and 9:00am to midnight Thursday and Friday. Residents are permitted to have visitors of the same gender in the social room of their building past visitation hours.

4.) For the health and safety of the residential community, smoking (including cigarettes, shisha, pipes, cigars, etc.) is prohibited in the residences halls. Smoking is not permitted within eight meters of any building entrance. Additionally, Shisha pipes found in resident apartments will be confiscated, and can only be obtained upon checkout from the facilities.

These are just a few of the policies found in the CLS. The full CLS can be found by following this link to the Qatar Foundation Housing and Residence Life Web site. To ensure that you have a safe, productive and fun living environment, we expect residents to review the document to prevent policy violations during your time here. Again, welcome to Education City, and we hope that you enjoy your time here!
