Saying Thank You and Recognizing Excellence
Every Thursday morning, a selected group of students and QF Student Life staff will visit the new residence halls construction site and award a certificate and prizes to construction staff who have displayed exemplary health & safety practices. After the award, the visitors will be given a tour of the construction site and will have the chance to learn a little more about the project.

Welcome to SWALIF 2.0! The word SWALIF in Arabic means "Chatting" and this year it will be easier for residents to find out about the latest HRL chat regarding the residence halls including important dates, deadlines and interesting articles about our community. Also, below there is a search box that can be used to find information in past SWALIF posts by using terms like "room freeze" or "housing lottery", of course always feel free to direct questions to your CDA or RHD!

Construction Updates!
What’s All That Noise?!
You may have noticed the large buildings that have made their way above the wall across from QF Headquarters building (behind the porta cabins and next to Al Jazeera Children’s Channel) – those are just SOME of our new residence halls! We have just begun the main works package to build 12 buildings that are designed to reach Platinum LEED Certification in Green Building and Design (the highest rating) and they are the largest collection of any such buildings ANYWHERE in the WORLD!
The site closest to us is the female site which will house 600 students in a single gender environment in single traditional residence hall style rooms and private and semi-private apartment style living. There will also be a Residential Community Center on each site which will be mixed gender, house a dining facility for each site, office space, a coffee shop, and a Community Learning Center for facilitating study groups, assistance for students at the various campuses and cutting edge technology. The male site is an exact replica of the female site (well, maybe a little more manly) !
So when will they open? Great question. Our anticipated full opening will be for the fall of 2012. We anticipate this will be a deadline that we meet easily.
What happens until then? Another good question. We will need your patience and understanding as our current facilities have been expanded to meet the needed capacity. This means the triples and the apartments housing six people will need to work together and with their CDA and RHD to create a living environment that is positive for all. We will always work to provide all of our residents and campus partners with information and education about the next steps in our buildings, but when it comes down to it, our only option to eliminate triples and dense occupancy is for the new halls to open in the fall of 2012. Thanks for your patience!
