Ramadan is here!

Ramadan in the Residence Halls

Ramadan Mubarak from all of the Housing and Residence Life staff. We wish each of you a blessed and generous month as we begin the new academic year here at Education City. As many of you know, Ramadan this year began on August 11, 2010. This month, in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed, is a special time for fasting, repentance, extra prayer, charity, and spending time with family and friends. Through the observance of Ramadan, Muslims draw closer to God, purify the heart and soul, and exhibit praiseworthy acts of charity, forgiveness, and kindness.

We wish for this holy month to be enjoyable for all residents, and as such would like to offer the following suggestions of etiquette during Ramadan to be respectful of those who observe and celebrate this special time.
• Avoid eating, drinking, or smoking in public during daylight hours (from sunrise to sunset).
• Be mindful of the clothing you wear and avoid anything revealing (modesty and decency are expected).
• Understand that schedules (both personal and businesses) may be changed in observance of Ramadan.
• Don’t raise the volume of your TV or Stereo during prayer hours.
• Do not swear or use harsh language in public.
• Try to understand Ramadan better by involving yourself in the spirit of the month. Say 'Ramadan Kareem' to Muslims and attend a fast-breaking iftar if invited.

If you have any questions about Ramadan, do not hesitate to contact the Housing and Residence Life staff in FB3. Ramadan Kareem!
